Starting in April 2020, the automotive industry gradually recovered. The commercial vehicle market significantly outperformed the passenger vehicle market, with various segments of the truck market experiencing continuous growth. This continuous growth gradually offset the impact of the epidemic.

August 2020 Medium Truck (Including Chassis) Sales Table (Unit: Vehicles)

The table shows that compared to the previous month, the top five medium truck companies in August saw 3 increases and 2 decreases. Compared to the same period in 2019, four companies saw increases and one saw a decrease. Dayun, ranked second, had the highest growth rate at 58%, and the other companies that experienced growth also exceeded the overall growth rate of the medium truck market. In August 2020, among the top five companies in the medium truck market, Futian, Dayun, and Dongfeng achieved positive growth both month-on-month and year-on-year, while Jiefang experienced declines in both.

Following continuous growth since April, the cumulative decline in the medium truck market narrowed month by month (a cumulative decline of 30% in the first three months, 16% in the first four months, 2% in the first five months, and 0.3% in the first six months). The chart shows that medium trucks have a very small market share. In August 2020, the 10% year-on-year growth rate of the medium truck market lagged behind the overall truck market's 49% growth rate. The 4.5% cumulative growth rate from January to August was also significantly lower than the overall performance of the truck market.
In April, the 22-month decline in the medium truck market finally ended. In May, the 70% growth rate was the highest among all truck market segments. Although the growth rate in June, July, and August lagged behind the overall market, it still achieved a rare "five consecutive months of growth." Mainstream companies such as Futian, Jiefang, and JAC have shown good growth in the first eight months of 2020 and are paying increasing attention to the medium truck market. The cumulative sales in the first eight months have already achieved 4.5% growth, which is encouraging. Despite its small market share, the future performance of the medium truck market is worth looking forward to.
